Report on Shanghai iACD – Jiaotong University meeting. July 2017

The officers of iACD met with the Deans and Luminaries of 4 major dental schools in Shanghai, China the week of July 10-15, 2017. (photo attached). The purpose of these meetings was to solidify professional and personal relationships between and among all academic organizations with iACD and to focus efforts for October 2018 World Congress in Shanghai.

Representation from major dental schools from US, China, Taiwan, Japan, and Korea are expected. Regional Professors will join Internationally renowned Professors from the UK (Professor E. Scher), Japan (Profs S. Kasugai, Kido), USA (Profs. Charles Goodacre, George Romanos and Jon B. Suzuki) and deliver presentations consistent with the theme, “Innovated Team Approaches to Contemporary Dentistry. Highlighting the joint Shanghai meeting were presentations by Jiaotong University Dean, Prof. GF Shen (iACD President elect), and Professor Jon B. Suzuki (President and Chairman- elect of iACD).

Executive Director Kate Matsumoto, and President Jon B. Suzuki continue to recruit and develop Asian relationships with iACD to promote sharing and dissemination of up to date diagnosis and treatment approaches in Dental and Medical Education.

Both organizations look forward to a long and rewarding relationship; in preparation for the 2018 Shanghai World Congress, as well as beyond.

New Speaker Podium Competition

International Academy of Contemporary Dentistry created the iACD New Speaker Podium Series to encourage a rising generation of dentists to develop practical, innovative solutions to tackle the many medical challenges that dental professionals observe daily from their interaction with patients.

If you have an ongoing research idea or a clinical best practice to share, we want to hear from you. And since ideas flourish when they are refined in a constructive setting, a credentialing committee consisting of a panel of Main Podium speakers will serve as mentors to evaluate the work of each presenter.

It is our hope that, as a New Speaker’s Podium participant, you will receive valuable feedback from leading experts in the field to refine your ideas and deepen your research. New Speaker Podium Competition Additionally, iACD will offer the following prizes to the top two performers:

First prize: $500 USD, a certificate of achievement, and one complimentary full conference registration for next year’s iACD Symposium.

Second prize: Certificate of achievement and one complimentary full conference registration for next year’s iACD Symposium.

Third prize: Certificate of achievement and one complimentary full conference registration for next year’s iACD Symposium.

The iACD New Speaker’s Podium also serves as a training ground for those aspiring to one day become regular presenters at the Main Podium of international conferences and symposiums. Recognizing that the field of dentistry is full of promising, young talents, iACD will extend to anyone who wins the New Speaker’s Podium three times the opportunity to present at the Main Podium in a future symposium.

We are looking to recruit passionate, aspiring young professionals committed to clinical and research innovations to participate as the first cohort of the New Speaker Podium competition.

The second annual congress of the International Academy of Contemporary Dentistry is planned for May 5-7, 2017 at New York University Continuing Education Auditorium. The Theme of the 2017 Congress, “Frontiers of Interdisciplinary Dentistry” embraces virtually all aspects of Dentistry and Dental Medicine, including multidisciplinary aspects of Oral Implantology.

Pre-Congress “New Speaker’s Podium” Section are being planned and will be supported by international universities from China, Japan, Guatemala. Speakers have been selected by Program Co-chairman Professor Preston Miller and Professor Jon B. Suzuki. A wide constellation of topics related to Dentistry, Medicine, including Otorhinolaryngology, and Implantology are confirmed. To date, Professor and Dean Christian Stohler, Professor Preston Miller, Professor Jon B. Suzuki, Professor Hai Zhang, Prof. Takashi Ono, Dr. Masao Yamazaki, Dr. Jonathan Abenaim, Dr. Kevin R. Suzuki, and Dr. David Chong have been confirmed. The iACD website will be forthcoming with headquarters hotel, registration, preliminary schedule, and gala events. We look forward to an exciting weekend in New York City, one of the greatest cities in the world for broad based clinical education, camaraderie, culture, fine dining, and collegiality.

The HK Symposium – A Report from the Executive Director

The inauguration of the International Academy of Contemporary Dentistry (iACD) and the First Greater China Symposium was held at the luxurious Kowloon Shangri-La Hotel on November 11-13, 2016. The Congress attracted over 450 Dentists from across Asia and the United States, which included over 225 Dentists attending the pre-congress hands on workshop courses the day prior to the meeting.

Professor Jon B. Suzuki, newly installed First President of iACD opened the Congress outlining the mission and objectives of the embryonic Asian dental organization. Professor Jon B. Suzuki described new trends for contemporary dentists who wish to further understand the relationship between oral health and systemic diseases and conditions.

A growing body of evidence supports bi-directional and synergistic mechanisms between periodontal diseases and Myocardial Infarction, Cardiovascular Accidents, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Diabetes, Pancreatic, renal, and oral cancers, Alzheimer’s disease and Dementia, among others.

New York University, College of Dentistry co-sponsored pre-congress hands on workshops. Maxillary Sinus Lift Surgery complications were presented by Dr. Stephen Wallace and Maxillary Sinus Augmentation was presented by Dr. Paul Yu, Italy. Prof. Shohei Kasugai (Tokyo Medical and Dental University) moderated the Young Implantologist Podium. The young speakers from US, Japan, Taiwan and China delivered innovative presentations.

Professor Preston Miller, Program Director in Periodontics at University of South Carolina, USA, showed video periodontal mucogingival and plastic surgeries, with predictable root coverage. Professor Perry Klokkeveld, Program Director in Periodontics at UCLA, Los Angeles, CA, USA, described immediate loaded implants in the Esthetic Zone.

After an elaborate mixed Japanese and Chinese luncheon buffet, Professor Edmond Bedrossian, University of the Pacific, San Francisco, CA USA demystified the zygomatic implant placement and treatment plan, while, President – elect Professor Steven Shen, China, concluded the first day of the Congress on Reconstructive Precision Surgery for Oral and Craniomaxillofacial deformities.

Opening the second day of the Congress, Dr Jun Shimada, Japan, presented principles of predictable long term implant success in Maxillary Sinus grafted sites. The second speaker of the morning session, Dr. Paul Chang, presented on Digital Innovations is Esthetic Implant Dentistry. Dr. Joseph Kan, Loma Linda University, California, USA gave his usual outstanding 18 year + experience with Immediate Tooth Replacement in the Esthetic Zone.

The afternoon closed with outstanding speakers Dr. Ruong Chuan Cheng, China, on CAD/CAM and Dr. Paul P. Lin on Soft Tissue Management of Esthetic Implant Complications. Frequent Conference Coffee and Refreshment breaks throughout the Congress allowed all participants to visit the exhibitors who lined the corridors and exhibit hall. At the end we received the closing remarks from Pro. Hirofumi Kido (Fukuoka Dental College).

The Dinner Gala attended by over 400 Participants and guests took place in the Harbour Room, Kowloon Shangri-La Hotel. Professor Jon B. Suzuki and Dr. Steven ZG Xue along with Dr. Bor-Jia Kuo, served as Masters of Ceremonies for the delightful stage entertainment.

This young, energetic Asian Dental Organization has a bright future for meetings planned for New York University, New York May 5-7, 2017 (program co-chairman Professor Preston Miller and Professor Jon B. Suzuki) and Shanghai, China May 25-28, 2018 (program co-chairman Professor Steve G.F. Shen and Professor Jon B. Suzuki).

IDS 2017 to showcase latest in 3-D printing and dental practice hygiene

COLOGNE, Germany: In 200 days’ time, Cologne will become the capital of the dental world again when the International Dental Show (IDS) is held for the 37th time. During the 2017 show, a number of topics will be highlighted.
