With Deepest Sadness: Remembering Prof. Wei-Liu Qiu

深い悲しみとともに邱蔚六 教授を偲ぶ
Prof. Qiu, was an outstanding medical doctor, educator, scientist, and one of the founders and pioneers of oral and maxillofacial surgery, head and neck tumor surgery, and oral and maxillofacial repair and reconstruction surgery in China. He was a truly remarkable individual. Prof. Qiu passed away at 16:08 on May 24, 2024, in Shanghai at the age of 92 due to the failure of medical treatment.
Some of Prof. Qiu’s many esteemed titles include:
– Academic of the Chinese Academy of Engineering,
- Member of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences
– Honorary director of the National Center for Stomatology and the National Clinical Oral Disease Research Center
– Honorary president of the Chinese Stomatology Association
- Council member of the International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.
– National advanced teacher and worker of the National Health System
– Contributing member of Shanghai Municipality
– Professor of Shanghai Jiao Tong University
– Former director of the Ninth People’s Hospital attached to the School of Medicine of Shanghai Jiao Tong University
– Former director of the School of Stomatology of Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
Prof. Qiu was not just a strong supporter of our organization; he was a guiding light who helped us navigate the challenges of international dental education since 1996. His unwavering dedication and profound wisdom shaped the foundation of our efforts and aspirations. It was Prof. Qiu who graciously bestowed upon us our organization’s Chinese name, a symbol of our shared values and commitment. Prof. Qiu was a great teacher, whose influence extended far beyond the classroom. His passion for dentistry and commitment to excellence inspired countless students, colleagues, and professionals around the world. We were privileged to learn from him and witness his extraordinary contributions to the field. His kindness, humility, and relentless pursuit of knowledge earned him our deepest love and respect. We will profoundly miss his presence, but his teachings and vision will continue to guide us.
In his honor, we pledge to devote our time and efforts to support and uphold his vision for the future of dentistry.

邱蔚六教授, 卓越的医学家、教育家、科学家，中国口腔颌面外科、头颈肿瘤外科以及口腔颌面修复重建外科的创建者和开拓者之一，中国工程院院士，中国医学科学院学部委员，国家口腔医学中心、国家口腔疾病临床医学研究中心名誉主任，中华口腔医学会名誉会长，国际口腔颌面外科医师协会理事，全国先进教师，全国卫生系统先进工作者，上海市教育功臣，上海交通大学荣誉讲席教授，上海交通大学医学院附属第九人民医院原院长，上海交通大学口腔医学院原院长邱蔚六同志，因病医治无效，于2024年5月24日16时08分在上海逝世，享年92岁。
邱教授不仅是我们组织的坚定支持者，他还是我们自 1996 年以来应对国际牙科教育挑战的引路人。他坚定不移的奉献精神和深刻的智慧奠定了我们努力和抱负的基础。正是邱教授将我们组织的中文名称（当代国际口腔医学会）赐予我们，象征着我们共同的价值观和承诺。
邱教授是一位伟大的老师，他的影响力远远超出了课堂。他对牙科的热情和对卓越的追求激励了世界各地无数的学生、同事和专业人士。我们很荣幸能向他学习，见证他对该领域的非凡贡献。他的善良、谦逊和对知识的不懈追求为他赢得了我们最深的爱和尊重。我们将深深地怀念他的存在，但他的教诲和远见将继续指引我们。为了纪念他，我们承诺投入时间和精力来支持和维护他对牙科未来的愿景。
